Support Laws to Prevent Antifreeze Poisoning in Dogs

Approximately 1400 children and 10,000 cats and dogs die annually from antifreeze poisoning.  Antifreeze tastes sweet and it takes no more than a teaspoon for a fatality.

But something can be done about this that would save many lives of children and pets each year.  Legislation is currently being consdered in many states that would require antifreeze makers to add a bittering agent to antifreeze products and engine coolants.  Supposedly, this one step would only cost a few cents extra per gallon and it could make an amazing difference for the good.

Some states already have this law, including California, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and Washington.  Contact your state legislature if your state isn’t listed here to see what is being done and how you can make your voice heard.  For your child, dog or other pets.
