Okay, we have all seen this look … when a pooch puts on “the Face”.  And, yes, who could resist?  I have been practicing this look since puppyhood and … it works like a charm.  I probably snag three times my share of dog bones with this look … hey. little buddies … try it!!

It’s tough getting around in New York if you’re going from uptown to downtown and while many New Yorkers would only take the subways, many take a taxi.

We had no idea that the dogs in New York thought this was such a great idea until we saw Bixby here riding down the street.  Yes … this is the Life!  Not sure Mik would pay for my taxi rides … but who knows … maybe if we move to New York!

Hey, I bet I could do this!  Look at these Terriers competing in the Jack Russell Hurdle Race during the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009. 

My master Mik and I were just visiting some friends the other day and we saw this awesome portrait of my friend Max.  He looks so great on that art canvas and his owners had it painted from a photograph they sent to e. Tobin Eckian who has a fun shop on Etsy called Tobin’s Art shop.

Tobin specializes in painting Boston Terriers but will paint a custom painting of any dog for that matter.  I hope Mik gets one painted of me …  I know just the photo too!

Who wouldn’t like to have a best bud like Suryia, the orangutan ?  Suryia goes nowhere without his best friend, Roscoe, the Blue Tick hound dog and they live in Myrtle Beach at the T.I.G.E.R.S. sanctuary.

They swim together, take walks together, sleep together.

We are very excited to let you know about a site we just discovered called Healthy Stuff.  It’s a site that gives you immediate access to research done on Pet products and Toys, including pet beds.  The site is extremely easy to use and the information is presented in a simple coding system with graphics even a dog could understand.  It shows which products contain lead, arsenic, cadmium, chlorine, mercury and bromine and to what degree it is present in that product.

At HealthyStuff.org you can search by product, by brand or level of concern, for example, your concern of lead in a product. There’s even a spot to “tweet” the results you’ve found so you can quickly share the info with your contacts and friends.

It is certainly no wonder that so many pets develop cancer these days, with all the dangerous chemicals in products pets use on a daily basis.  But with this website, we all can benefit by choosing products and toys for our dogs, cats and other pets that we know have the least amount of toxic chemicals.  Please be sure to spread this info on to friends and family. Hey, doggeros … just heard Mik talking about this Pet Summary thingie .. I was bad sick the other day and Mik was so happy he had used Pet Summary.  Your caretaker gets a card with all all your important info, shots, etc, on a card to carry in their wallet.  But we were traveling and Mik forgot to keep his card with him this time.   But with Pet Summary, they keep your info on the website so Mik just printed out a copy to show to the Vet.  Actually, I guess the vets can just go there themselves and get the info with the login info your master provides.

The Pet Summary card displays:

• All of your pet’s medical conditions, allergies, and current medications
• Your pet’s daily routine and dietary requirements

Hey .. here’s a great recipe for some Beefy Dog Biscuits … get your owner to make you some!!

Beefy Biscuits
2 cups whole wheat or all purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/4cup wheat germ
2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder
1/2 teaspoon yeast extract (adds additional meaty flavour)

Mix above ingredients in a medium bowl.

Add: 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon cooking oil and 1 cup hot water.

Stir well. Roll out on a well-floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Place on ungreased cooking sheet. Bake on center rack, (275 F. or 140 C) for about 2 hours until dry and very hard. Let stand overnight to dry thoroughly. Makes 10 big bones and 14 puppy bones.

Gourmet Sleuth

So there, I’ve said it.  My NY buddy lives in NY right next to Central Park and he is one lucky dog!  He sends me photos all the time of the cool dogs, the hip dogs and the most pampered dogs.  Really, some of those dogs have the life.  They don’t even have to do the walking … they get pushed around in carts and ride in bicycle baskets.  Don’t even have to start panting to cool off.

Then there’s this guy who wears his own sunglasses and sun visor.  I mean, what’s up with that?  Mik would never let me walk around like this, much less in NYC!  But then, I guess I have to remember that there are some real celeb dogs and their owners walking around the park there.  Have you seen any stars in your hometown lately?

Only in New York!

My friend was in Central Park last weekend and came across a group of 45 dogs – all laying down, in a row.   What’s even more amazing is that they were taking a break while their 3 dogwalkers had them out for a stroll.   And they were all pleasantly getting along!

Well, as a dog myself, I can tell you that it’s not always easy being pals with some of the dogs I meet.  Some of them are pretty darn aggressive.   And, of course, we all like to be the Alpha dog.   So, if you get to New York anytime soon, I guess you’ll find a friendlier breed of dog there.  Maybe they have to be friendly or it’s so long Fido!
